Recover
Plastic can be thought of as a borrowed resource. Whilst most of the oil taken from the ground goes straight into producing heat and energy in power stations, factories and homes, why not turn it into plastic first and then recover the plastic to convert into heating and energy? This process, known as ‘energy from waste’, is by far the preferred option in many European countries. In Sweden 58% of their waste is recovered in this way in clean incineration facilities. PAFA supports recent UK Government moves towards encouraging energy from waste and believes it is an excellent way of recovering the value of plastics which have a greater hidden calorific value than coal. This option will also greatly reduce the burden on our landfill sites.
