Bioplastics
At a time when the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly high profile, the global polymer industry has developed a range of bioplastic options which are suited to a wide range of applications according to the needs of the packaging specifier, retailer and consumer. Such materials can be sourced from non-fossil fuels and can be based on sustainable crops. In a fast-developing sector of the industry, the functionality and performance of bioplastics is constantly changing and PAFA will be happy to point enquirers towards a member who may provide further expert advice.
PAFA is also committed to helping remove the confusion which has arisen over terminology and descriptions for flexible bioplastic films including terms such as degradable, oxodegradable, biodegradable, compostable etc and those members of the association who offer biopolymers do not participate in making misleading or ‘green marketing’ claims about their products.
Specialist applications include packaging for consumer products such as organic produce, crop protection/mulching films, closed loop garden waste bags etc.
